GQC Spring Convention, Saturday, March 17, Dawsonville, GA
Spring Workshops…March 16 (Dawsonville, 18 (Decatur), 19 (Tifton)
NEWS from the NEW PRESIDENT
There is no news like good news, and only good events are happening at the Georgia Quilt Council! Since my election at the Fall Convention, in November, where we were awed and inspired by Pat Wys and two of our own Georgia Gems, Casey Greene and Mary Maynard, the Council has had one meeting. At that meeting, there was a lot of excitement about how to make the GQCmore “user-friendly” to our members. One of our bright ideas was to include our Loose Threadsat the Spring Convention as our “Guild Hostesses”. Now granted a Loose Thread is a quilter without a guild home, but they did win the crown at the convention for being the loudest group at Roll Call. (Now if I have lost you by using terms like crown and roll call, then you need to come to the Spring Convention and experience the fun!!) If you are a Loose Thread we will be calling on you to help plan and participate in the Spring Convention. The location will be in Dawsonville at Bethel UMC and Maggie Ball, all the way from the state of Washington, will be our guestspeaker. Go to her website at www.dragonflyquilts.com to see her quilting designs and her work in Mongolia .
The Council is working on other ways to build friendships with each other by starting the BAB program which you will read about later in this newsletter, and we are also looking for younger women who are just beginning to quilt. One idea we had was to reach out to these young women on college campuses. At the Fall Convention there was a new quilter from Georgia Tech and two from Georgia State who are getting their Master’s in textile arts. It’s exciting to be able to shareour love of quilting with young people.
My hope is to see 150 GQC members at the Spring Convention, and makethis our BEST CONVENTION YET!!
Here to serve you!
